What to do with a Mechanical Engineering Degree

Mechanical technician: Primary duties: Mechanical technicians help with the development, testing and manufacturing of mechanical tools or devices. They're responsible for understanding the intricacies of the equipment to develop preventative maintenance measures and troubleshoot problems that occur.

HVAC technician: Primary duties: Heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) is a system that provides heating and cooling to buildings. An HVAC technician is responsible for installing and repairing these systems to maintain a comfortable indoor climate and air quality.

CAD technician: Primary duties: Computer-aided design (CAD) is a process that uses software programs to create product designs in 2D or 3D to help visualize the construction.

Maintenance engineer: Primary duties: A maintenance engineer is responsible for designing or improving maintenance strategies for industrial processes in manufacturing facilities.

Marine engineer: Primary duties: Marine engineers create and build mechanical equipment for various watercraft, such as ships, boats or submarines. They design and test prototypes, which are early models of a product, to determine how to meet the project's requirements.

Civil engineer: Primary duties: Civil engineers design infrastructure and systems, such as buildings, roads, bridges and sewers, that meet code requirements. They analyze a variety of factors, such as cost, regulations, survey reports and potential environmental hazards.

Biomedical engineer: Primary duties: Biomedical engineers design and build products and equipment that can improve health care, such as artificial organs or body-imaging machines.

Mechanical engineer: Primary duties: Mechanical engineers develop and build mechanical tools or products, such as engines, generators, control systems and sensors. They use physics, engineering and mathematics principles to design and operate machinery.
