Popular universities in The World for higher education

Sorbonne University  Sorbonne University is a public research and non-profit coeducational college in France with its motto: creators of the future. This university has existed since 2018 because of the merger between Paris-Sorbonne University, Pierre et Marie Curie University, and other smaller institutions.

Paris-Saclay University  This is also a public research college located in Paris. It is the main center for research and various training in Paris-Saclay. This university is part of the project: Paris-Saclay which is being developed near Paris, on the plateau de Saclay. 

University of Oxford The University of Oxford is the oldest university in the English-speaking world and the world’s second oldest surviving university. While its exact founding date is unknown, there is evidence that teaching took place as far back as 1096. 

Harvard University Dating back to 1636, Harvard University is the oldest university in the US and is regarded as one of the most prestigious in the world. It was named after its first benefactor, John Harvard, who left his library and half his estate to the institution when he died in 1638.

The University of Montpellier  Regarded as one of the best colleges in France; this public research university is located in Montpellier, southeast of France. It is one of the oldest universities in the world established in 1220(802 years ago). 

University of Cambridge Founded in 1209, the University of Cambridge is a collegiate public research institution. Its 800-year history makes it the fourth-oldest surviving university in the world and the second-oldest university in the English-speaking world. 

Yale University  Yale University is a private Ivy League research university which is the third-oldest higher education institution in the US. Yale traces its history back to 1701, when it was founded as the Collegiate School in Saybrook, Connecticut, which moved to New Haven 15 years later.

Paris Sciences et Lettres University   This university is a collegiate university having 11 constituent schools with its main sites at the Jourdan campus, Porte Dauphine, Carre Richelieu, and in the Latin Quarter.  PSL offers awards on Bachelor’s, Master’s, and Ph.D. diplomas for its constituent institutes. 

Stanford University Stanford University has one of the largest campuses in the US and is one of the most prestigious universities in the world. It was established in 1885 and opened six years later as a co-educational and non-denominational private institution.

Ecole Normale Superieure de Lyon (ENS de Lyon/ENSL)  This university is a Grand Ecole located in the City of Lyon. It is one of the four prestigious Ecoles Normales Superieures colleges in France established in 1880 but became recognized properly in 2010.
