Mission Voyager: A Timeless Journey Through Space

The mission is to extend the NASA exploration of the solar system beyond the neighborhood of the outer planets to the outer limits of the Sun's sphere of influence and possibly beyond.

Mission

The primary mission was the exploration of Jupiter and Saturn. After making a string of discoveries there such as active volcanoes on Jupiter's moon the mission was extended.

Hunting Infinity

The twin Voyager 1 and 2 spacecraft  spacecraft are still sending scientific information about their surroundings through the Deep Space Network,

 Great Expectation

Voyager 2 went on to explore Uranus and Neptune, and is still the only spacecraft to have visited those outer planets.

Unique Record

The Voyager message is carried by a phonograph record, a 12-inch gold-plated copper disk containing sounds and images selected to portray the diversity of life and culture on Earth.

Golden Record

Both Voyager 1 and Voyager 2 have reached "Interstellar space" and each continue their unique journey through the Universe.

Current Position

After traveling for more than four decades at thousands of miles per hour, the distance from the Voyagers back to Earth takes more than 42 hours to send a radio signal at the speed of light to Voyager 1 and then receive a response back.

Proud Past, Strong Future

Voyager 2 took this image as it approached the planet Uranus. Voyager 2 flew through a plasmoid a giant magnetic bubble that may have been whisking Uranus atmosphere out to space.
