IAS vs IPS Power and Responsibilities

IAS (Indian Administrative Service): 

Power and Authority: 

               

IAS officers are primarily responsible for the administrative functions of the government. 

Secretariat: 

               

At the state and central levels, IAS officers work in various departments, and some top positions in the government are held by IAS officers 

District Magistrate: 

               

At the district level, the IAS officer serves as the District Magistrate, responsible for maintaining law and order. 

IPS (Indian Police Service):  

Power and Authority: 

               

IPS officers are responsible for maintaining law and order, preventing and investigating crimes, and upholding the rule of law. 

Law Enforcement: 

               

IPS officers lead and command the police forces at various levels, from the district police to state and central police organizations. 

Investigative Responsibilities: 

               

IPS officers are in charge of conducting criminal investigations, gathering evidence, and bringing criminals to justice.
