The Indian Institute of Science (IISC), originally conceived by J.N.Tata, a well-known Industrialist, was established in the year 1909 at Bangaluru, in Karnataka state. The institute was constructed on sprawling land of four acres full of greenery consisting of 110 different species of exotic herbs and woody plants. The institute imparts engineering education including research of excellent quality in a serene atmosphere. The entire institute is cris-crossed by roads like Arjuna Marg, the Silver Oak Mark, the Ashoka Marg, the Badami Marg, the Gulmohar Marg, the Amra Marg, the Nilgiri Marg, the Tala Marg, and the Mahogany marg.
