  • Quadrilateral

It is a polygon that has four vertices & four sides enclosing four angles. The sum of its interior angles is 360 degrees. It has sides of different lengths & angles of different measures.

  • Construction of Quadrilaterals

(i) Four sides & one diagonal are given.

(ii) Three sides & including two angles are given

(iii) Two sides & three angles are given

  • When four Sides & One Diagonal are Given PQRS

For instance: construct a quadrilateral ABCD where the measurements are:

AB = 5 cm, BC = 3 cm, CD = 5 cm, AD = 4 cm, Diagonal DB = 6 cm

Here are the steps of the construction of Quadrilaterals

  1. Draw a line segment of length 5 cm & mark the ends as D & C.
  2. Set your compass to the radius of 3 cm & make an arc from the point C above the line segment.
  3. Set the compass to the radius of 6 cm & make an arc from the point D on the previous arc.
  4. Mark the point as B where the two arcs cross each other. Join the points D & B as well as C & B.
  5. Set the compass to the radius of 5 cm & make an arc from the point B.
  6. Set the compass to the radius of 4 cm & make an arc from the point D on the previous arc.
  7. Mark the point as A where the two arcs cross each other.
  8. Join the points A & B as well as A & D.
  9. The students will get the quadrilateral ABCD of the required measurements.
