Properties of Triangles
- There are three sides, three vertices, and three angles in a triangle.
- The angle sum property of the triangle states that the sum of all the interior angles in a triangle is 180°.
- The side of the triangle that is opposite to the largest angle is the largest.
- The sum of the length of any two sides of the triangle is greater than the length of the third side of the triangle.
- The exterior angle property of the triangle states that the sum of any exterior angle of the triangle is equal to the sum of the interior opposite sides.
Classification of Triangles
Triangles can be classified in two ways-
- Based on its sides
- Based on its angles
Classifying Triangles Based on Their Sides
- Scalene Triangle– The triangles in which all the sides are not equal are known as scalene triangles.
- Isosceles Triangle– The triangles in which only two sides are equal are known as isosceles triangles.
- Equilateral Triangle– The triangles in which all three sides are equal are known as equilateral triangles.
Classifying Triangles based on their angles
- Acute Triangle– An acute triangle is one in which all three angles are less than 90°. It is also known as an acute-angled triangle.
- Obtuse Triangle– An obtuse triangle is one in which one angle is more than 90° but less than 180°. It is also known as an obtuse-angled triangle.
- Right Triangle– A right triangle is one in which one angle is the right angle which means 90°. It is also known as the right-angled triangle.
