Technology of Ceramic Whitewares
Technology of Ceramic Whitewares
Texture effects, high temperature characterization of raw materials, enthalpy of fusion of feldspars, dewatering of
slips and control of slip properties. Drying, effect of processing methods on the physical properties of the bodies.
Grain growth, sintering and vitrification in whitewares. Effect of variation in triaxial and other whiteware
compositions, temperature and furnace atmosphere on microstructure.
Specialisation on the technology of bone-china and porcelain (chemical, sanitary, electrical) manufacture. Ceramic
colours and decoration. Development and control techniques as applied to the whitewares.
Strength of porcelain insulators. Factors affecting breakdown of electric insulators. Low alkali porcelains.
Preparation and role of synthetic steatite, cordierite in ceramic bodies. Heterogeneous polycrystalline systems.
