The Central University Entrance Test (CUET), which is now mandatory for undergraduate admission at any of the nation’s 45 central universities, was announced by the University Grants Commission in April 2023. (UGC). All 45 central universities are now required to use CUET, a redesigned version of CUCET. Let us take a look at the details of the exam. CUET refers to Central Universities Common Entrance Test which has been renamed as the Common University Entrance Test.
This examination is Compulsory for all UGC-funded Central Universities. Today all State Universities, Private Universities, and Deemed to be Universities are allowed to accept the scorecard for CUET.
CUET exam is now going to be conducted as a Computer Based test by the National Testing Agency or NTA which already conducts several other examinations like UGC NET, IIT-JEE, and NEET.
It is a single entrance exam for admission to Central Universities and other participating institutions, which will admit candidates to their UG courses for the academic year 2023 based on their marks/NTA Score in this exam.
This test will be conducted in two shifts. Talking about the medium of the exam students can take the examination in any one out of the 13 languages which include Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Gujarati, Oriya, Bengali, Panjabi Assamese, English, Hindi as well as Urdu.

CUET 2023 has rolled out an important Notice for all College Aspirants. The application process for the Common University Entrance Test (CUET-UG) to be conducted between the 21st and 31st of May will start in the first week of February 2023.

The number of subjects and pattern of question papers will remain the same. A candidate can take as many as 6 Domain Subjects in addition to one/ two Languages and the General Test. Results of CUET-UG are planned to be announced in the third week of June 2023 and those of CUET-PG in the first week of July 2023
CUET Exam Structure
Let us understand the exam structure to get an overview of what the exam is all about. The exam has been bifurcated into three sections. Section one is Language Specific, section two is domain-specific and Section three is a General test where questions about the evaluation of your Aptitude shall be asked. Moreover, the Section has been divided into two parts which are Section 1A and Section 1B. Section 1A talks about the thirteen languages as mentioned earlier and Section 1 B shall include foreign languages or the languages that were previously excluded from Section A shall form a part of Section B.
The sections which need to be attempted by you shall solely depend on the particular course you wish to opt for or the course which is being offered by the University. Depending upon the availability of the course the university lays down guidelines on the section which you need to attempt.
CUET Exam Pattern
Talking about the first section about languages. You need to pick the language of your choice out of the given thirteen languages be it Hindi, English, Panjabi, Urdu, etc. In this particular section, you will be asked 50 questions out of which you only have to attempt 40. A duration of 45 minutes shall be given to complete the paper.
These questions will be based on Reading Comprehension based on different types of Passages- Factual, Literary, and Narrative. These passages aim at evaluating your Literary Aptitude and Vocabulary. The second section on languages is no different. The slight variation involves that you can choose your language out of the 19 given languages that include foreign languages are excluded from Section 1.
These foreign languages include French, Spanish, German, Nepali, Persian, Italian, Arabic, and Sindhi among others. The number of questions and time stands to be the same. The time allotted is 45 minutes. Reading Comprehension is also the same as in section 1A. There are 27 Domain-specific subjects and a candidate may choose a maximum of 6 subjects as desired by the applicable University
Here 40 questions need to be attempted out of 50 in each domain and it is really important. The exam entails multiple choice questions based on NCERT class 12th syllabus only.
For instance, if you are pursuing science and wish to switch over to commerce so you will have to attempt the subjects from the commerce section.
Section 3 of the CUET Exam is a general test. This test is for any undergraduate program offered by Universities where a general Test is being used for admission. Here you need to attempt 60 questions out of 75. Input text can be used for MCQ-based questions. The subjects encompass GK, Current affairs, General mental ability, and Quantitative reasoning along with logical and analytical Reasoning.
The exam is 60 minutes long and is a simple application of Basic Mathematical concepts such as arithmetic, algebra, geometry, and mensuration.
CUET Application Form
To fill in the CUET exam 2023 online application form, the candidates need to provide their academic, personal, and contact details. The Application forms shall only be released online mode and will be filled out on the official website of CUET. The submission process will be regulated for eligible candidates only.
Candidates must have filled in the application form with authentic details only as any alteration in the details can lead to the rejection of the application form.
CUET Eligibility Criteria
For the CUET examination, there is no maximum age limit. However, your minimum age should be 18 years in order to be eligible for the exam. As per the official notification, a dropper can also apply for the NTA CUET 2023 Exam. However, they should satisfy the criteria with regard to their age limit and education and academic qualification. As the eligibility criteria for admission may be unique for every University, the candidates are advised to visit the respective University website to which they are applying for their respective programs.
CUET Exam Fee
The CUET exam fee is INR 650 for the General category and INR 600 for OBC-NCL and EWS category candidates. In the case of SC, ST, and PWD Third Gender candidates it is INR 550. Candidates who wish to opt for a center located outside India had to pay INR 3,000.
CUET Mandatory Qualifications
The eligibility criteria to get admission in different courses stand to be different for different universities. Nevertheless, a minimum 50% score is required from graduation or based on performance during the entrance exam to get admission in PG courses.75% from certificates and trials and 25% from CUET scores must be required to get admission to sports or extracurricular activities and supplementary seats.
CUET Syllabus
This is a brief overview of the CUET 2023 Syllabus. The National Testing Agency specifies the CUET 2023 syllabus for the candidates appearing for the national-level entrance test of CUET, formerly known as CUCET. Candidates who wish to appear for the CUET (UG) 2023 should prepare from the grade 12th NCERT syllabus. A candidate can choose a maximum of one language for one section. CUET Counseling and Merit list
The seats are allotted to the candidates in their respective courses and universities/institutes through CUET Counselling. All the qualifying candidates who want to secure admission to any of the participating universities, need to fill out the application form from the official website of the respective university.
Counseling 2023 is being conducted tentatively from August 2023. The Counselling process is conducted separately by the participating Universities which includes the Central Universities of India. Candidates are advised to carry the admission form at the respective university on the day of CUET Counselling 2023. The authority is going to declare CUET Result 2023 tentatively on September 4th week of July 2023. The scores are sent to the Universities they had opted for
With regard to the merit list. The Merit list will be formed by the NTA based on the score of all the students. Universities will conduct the counseling process based on the Merit list given by NTA.
