CTET Educational Criteria for Paper 1 Primary Level

To be qualified for being a Primary stage teacher from classes 1 to 5, applicants must meet any one criterion given below to fulfill their CTET Eligibility:

  • Candidates must have passed 10+2 Exams from a recognized institute with minimum passing marks of 50 percent marks 

OR

  • The candidate must have passed or must be in the final year of the two-year teacher training diploma course in Elementary Education

OR

  • Candidates must have passed their 10+2 board examinations from a recognized institute with at least 45 percent marks (or) appearing in the final year of the 2-year Diploma

OR

  • Senior Secondary (or its equivalent) with at least 50% marks and passed or appearing in the final year of a 4-year Bachelor of Elementary Education (B.El.Ed.).

OR

  • Graduation with 50% of Marks and Bachelor of Education (B. Ed)

CTET Educational Criteria for Paper 2 Upper Primary Level

CTET Academic Qualification for Elementary Stage Teachers that is from Class 5 to Class 8 teachers must fulfill the mentioned eligibility requirements:

  • Candidates must have a recognized diploma/degree in teacher education

OR

  • Passed Graduation with Min 50% marks or Pursuing Final Year in a 2-year Diploma Course for Elementary Education

OR

  • Graduation with at least 45% marks and passed or appearing in 1-year Bachelor in Education (B.Ed.), by the NCTE

OR

  • Senior Secondary (or its equivalent) with at least 50% marks or appearing in the final year of 4-year B. A/B.Sc. Ed or B.A.Ed./B.Sc.Ed.

  • Graduation with 50% marks and Passed 1-year B.Ed. Program

  • Online Applications for CTET 2023 will be accepted only by the citizens of India
  • Although there is no specific restriction for age limit, the applicant must be at least 17 years of age to appear for the exam. 

CTET Eligibility for Reserved Category

CTET Reservation Criteria offer relaxation to candidates based on their castes. Candidates belonging to the reserved categories like Scheduled Caste (SC), Scheduled Tribe (ST), Other Backward Class (OBC), and Differently Abled Sections are given a relaxation of five percent in qualifying marks.

CTET Nationality Criteria 2023

Nationality is the topmost eligibility criterion to consider in the application of CTET aspirants. Nationality is the first aspect seen by the higher authorities who will proceed with the candidate for the further rounds. The candidate must be an Indian citizen or should meet any one of the below criteria.

  1. A Subject from Nepal. 
  2. A Subject From Bhutan.
  3. A Tibetian who came over to India before 1st January 1962 intended to settle in India Permanently.
  4. The candidates who migrated from Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Zambia Ethiopia, Vietnam, and Burma to settle in India permanently.

Other CTET Eligibility Parameters

  • Diploma/Degree courses in teacher education recognized by the NCTE will only be considered. However, in the case of Special education like the Diploma in Education and B.ED., a course recognized by RCT will be considered.
  • A person with Diploma in Education (D.Ed.) should undergo a training program, after the appointment.
  • All the above-qualified teachers can apply to languages like Social Science, Science, and Maths.
  • A person who is pursuing any of the teacher education courses specified in the NCTE recruitment process Notification will be eligible to apply for the CTET Exam.
  • The Candidates should satisfy His/Her Eligibility to apply for the Exam and shall be personally responsible in case he/she doesn’t meet eligibility. 

Note: The candidate can attend the exam if any of his/her Eligibility meets. However, Final Eligibility will be verified by the Concerned Authority. Also, candidates can attend the exam any number of times.

Important Points Regarding CTET Eligibility

Some of the important points to note regarding the eligibility criteria for CTET are as under:

  1. 5% relaxation is given to applicants belonging to the Reserved Categories i.e. SC/ST/OBC/PwD.
  2. Diploma/Degree courses in Education recognized by the National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE) only will be taken into consideration.
  3. Diploma in Education (Special Education) and B.Ed (Special Education) recognized by the Rehabilitation Council of India (RCI) only will be taken into consideration.
  4. The minimum qualifications mentioned above are for teachers of different subjects. In the case of teachers for Physical Education, the minimum qualification norms referred to in NCTE Regulation, dated 3rd November 2001 (as amended on a timely basis) will be applicable. For teachers of Art, Craft, Home Science, Work Education, etc., the existing eligibility criteria prescribed by the State Governments and other school management will be applicable till such time the NCTE lays down the minimum qualifications in respect of such teachers.
  5. A person who is currently pursuing any of the education courses recognized by the NCTE or the RCI is eligible to appear in CTET 2023.

  1. Hi, i am 34 years old.I have done B.Tech(2008) and MBA(2011). Now i want to persue my career in teaching and I am going to enroll myself in 2 years regular B.Ed program this year. My query is: is it compulsory to give CTET exam even if I am not keen in government jobs?   3. What if I filled a form for CTET in 2020 when I was in the 1st year of D.El.Ed for practice purpose, but due to corona, I had given the exam on 31 Jan 2021 rather than july 2020 when i am in my 2 nd year and I passed my exam. Is it valid or not?
