RS Aggarwal Solutions Class 7 Maths Chapter 2 Ex 2.1 “Greater or lesser fractions” – Determining Equivalent Fractions
- The two fractions representing the same part of the whole are considered as “Equivalent Fractions”. They don’t need to always have the same numerator or denominator.
- One of the methods of determining that whether two fractions are equal or not is by finding the common denominator for each fraction then rewriting each of the fractions with that denominator.
- Then look into the numerator if they are equal or not. If the numbers present in the place of numerators are equal then we can call the two fractions equivalent.
- The simplest way to find the common denominator is to see if one denominator value is the factor of another denominator value. If this is true, then we can directly take the denominator having the greatest value as a common denominator for both of the fractions.
- If one denominator is not the factor of another denominator, then search for the common denominator by performing the multiplication of those two denominators together.
The greater and smaller symbolic representation:
- 2 is lesser than 4 and so it will be written as 2 < 4.
- 15 is greater than 5 and so it will be written as 15 > 5.
- 20 is equal to 20 and so it will be written as 20 = 20.
