Rank-wise Police Job in India 

        

The highest-ranking police officer in a state or at the national level. At the national level, there is the Director-General of Police. 

                                                        

Director General of Police (DGP): 

This is a senior rank often assigned to officers with specialized roles or responsibilities within the state police. 

                                                        

Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) 

IGPs usually head police ranges or zones within a state. They are responsible for a large geographic area and multiple districts. 

                                                        

Inspector General of Police (IGP) 

DIGPs assist IGPs in overseeing police operations in their respective regions. 

                                                        

Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIGP) 

These officers are in charge of districts or cities and are responsible for maintaining law and order in their jurisdiction. 

                                                        

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) / Superintendent of Police (SP) 

These officers assist the SP or SSP in managing the police force in a district or city. 

                                                        

Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) / Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) 

These officers are generally at the beginning of their career as Gazetted Officers and may assist senior officers or handle specific cases. 

                                                        

Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) / Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) 

Inspectors are responsible for police stations, and they oversee the day-to-day operations of their respective areas. 

                                                        

Inspector 

Sub-Inspectors are typically responsible for the sub-units within a police station. They may also investigate cases. 

                                                        

Sub-Inspector 

ASI is assist the Sub-Inspectors in their duties and often handle administrative tasks within the police station. 

                                                        

Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) 

Head Constables may supervise constables and are responsible for maintaining order and assisting with investigations. 

                                                        

Head Constable 

Constables are the lowest-ranked police officers responsible for general law enforcement duties.
