7 Reading Techniques for Increasing Learning & Knowledge

Active Reading:

Engage actively with the text by highlighting or underlining key points, jotting down notes in the margins, and asking questions.

Previewing:

Before diving into a text, spend a few minutes previewing it. Skim the headings, subheadings, and introductory and concluding paragraphs to get an overview of the content.

Visualization:

Visualize the concepts and ideas you encounter while reading. Create mental images or draw diagrams to help you grasp complex ideas and improve memory retention.

Summarizing:

After reading a section or a chapter, take a few moments to summarize the main points in your own words.

SQ3R Method:

SQ3R stands for Survey, Question, Read, Recite, and Review. First, survey the text by scanning headings, subheadings, and keywords.

Mind Mapping:

Use mind maps to visually organize and connect ideas from the text. Start with a central concept or main idea and branch out with subtopics, supporting details, and relationships.

Reflective Reading:

Take time to reflect on what you've read. Consider how the information connects to what you already know or how it applies to real-life situations.
