Gather your documents

Create an FSA ID
You will need to create an FSA ID (Federal Student Aid ID) to electronically sign the FAFSA form.
Go to the FAFSA website
You can find the FAFSA application at fafsa.ed.gov. Click the "Start a New FAFSA" button to begin.
Enter your personal information
This includes your name, date of birth, and Social Security number.
List the schools you are applying to
You can list up to 10 schools. The schools will use your FAFSA information to determine your eligibility for financial aid.
Enter your financial information
If you are a dependent student, you will also need to provide your parents' financial information.
Sign and submit your FAFSA
Once you have reviewed your information for accuracy, you can sign your FAFSA electronically using your FSA ID.
Review your Student Aid Report (SAR)
After you submit your FAFSA, you will receive a Student Aid Report (SAR) that summarizes the information you provided on the FAFSA.
Follow up with your schools
The schools you listed on your FAFSA will use your information to determine your eligibility for financial aid.
