patterns, Selection rules. Determination of structure and lattice parameters. Applications of X-ray diffraction in
ceramic systems.
Spectrophotometry, Atomic Absorption Spectrometer, Polarography and its applications in analysis of ceramic
systems.
Electron Microscopy- Principle, construction and operation of Scanning Electron Microscope. Principle,
construction and working of Transmission Electron Microscope (TEM). Electron diffraction, Bright field and dark
field images, SAD. Sample preparation of ceramic materials for SEM and TEM. Particle size, surface area and porosity measurements- Light scattering, Coulter counter and Sedimentation method
for particle size measurements. BET surface area measurements. Mercury porosimeter.
