Tthe original book “An Introduction to Sociology” written by my co-authors Dr. Vidya Bhushan and Late Dr. D.R.Sachdeva has now been rewritten especially for the nursing students as per the syllabus of “All India Nursing Council”. . This project is a result of many years of teaching experience to different groups of nursing students, professional relations with social scientists, academicians, and many senior nurse educators who have been involved in revision of nursing curriculum. Although the book has been written primarily for undergraduates, it would prove useful to graduate nurses and practitioners of sociology as well. Throughout this book content and illustrations from social and clinical settings have been included to ensure better understanding of the subject. An attempt has been made to provide up-to-date information in reference to current sociological context. Chapter 22 - 'Population' and chapter 28 -'Major Social Problems' have been completely rewritten based on today's social scenario. Questions have been framed at the end of each chapter to aid the students in reviewing the content, recalling the facts and preparing for examinations.
