It is our pleasure to present this text book of 'Statistical Methods - I, Paper I' to the students of F.Y.B.Sc. (Computer Science) class. The book is written in accordance with the revised syllabus of Pune University, with effect from June, 2013.
The main purpose of the book is to provide foundation as well as comprehensive background of statistics to the computer science students. In order to make the contents of the book easier to comprehend, we have included a requisite number of illustrations, remarks, figures, diagrams etc. to elucidate statistical concepts. Application of statistics in real life situations is emphasized through illustrative examples.
In any field, Statistical Methods form an essential part of data analysis. Hence, learning elementary statistical techniques would be of great help to the computer science students in their future career. We have tried our best to reduce theoretical details and emphasize more on concepts and mastering techniques through numerical problems.
