Statistical Interference: Estimation by Dr. P. G. Dixit, Dr. (Mrs.) V. R. Prayag, Prof. S. M. Patil, Prof. N. J. Subandh
Book Summary:

We are indeed happy in handing over the book on Statistical Inference : Estimation to the readers. It was our dream and long pending task to have such book. It is a byproduct of our pretty long 38 years sincere teaching experience in reputed institutions. We have sufficient experience of writing books for undergraduate students.

The response by the readers to earlier books on statistics encouraged us write the book. Statistical inference is an important and a core paper in the curriculum of B.Sc./B.A. with Statistics as main or principal or special subject. There is no proper text book on Theory of Estimation according to syllabi of Indian Universities. While teaching statistical inference to B.Sc./B.A. classes we were facing the difficulty of non-availability of proper text books. Students find the suggested reference books hard to understand, brief in explanation, with inadequate number of illustrations, numerical problems and examples, exercises, the matter is not exhaustive. As a result majority students do not read such books and heavily depend on the class notes. This leads to non-uniformity in teaching and controversy about the methods and the proofs. Debate takes place on whether a particular problem asked in examination is out of syllabi or very hard. So it was a long felt need to have a book in lucid form. In the recent years the number of students in B.Sc./B.A. classes substantially increased.
