One of the major revisions in the earlier edition was the inclusion of VLSI technology. Since then the Integration level has further jumped leading to higher IC complexity. Today discussions focus on ultralarge-scale integration (ULSI) and giga-scale integration (GSI). ULSI technology involves scaling of processes to the deep submicron dimensions, as well as the addition of new processes not used previously in the VLSI era. To keep pace with these rapid growth in IC technology, the book is further revised to include material on ULSI technology by adding new sections to chapter 4 and 5. These advances are also reflected in Chapter 1. Chapter 3 is further enlarged by including additional basic material for semiconductor devices. Finally, this edition also fulfills the long felt need of objective type questions by including a bank of multi-choice questions at the end of the text, thus, enhancing the utility of the book.
