Good HR practices have a tremendous influence on business results. Any practice that deals with enhancing competencies, commitment and culture building can be considered as HR practices.

Human Resource Development has been defined as essentially consisting of Competencies, Commitment, and Culture. All these are needed to make organisations function well. All the three 'C's need to be identified and implemented effectively, reviewing and revising them from time to time to enhance their effectiveness and appropriateness.

I have been witnessing an evolution in HR practices from the last 20 years. There is a significant change in the last 5 years, as the HR function is being aligned with business strategies and with the introduction of Balanced Score Card based performance appraisal, and the role of HR as a Business Partner.
