Competitive English (For Professional Courses) by J. K. Gangal
Book Summary:
A good communication skill, both in speech and writing is the need of the hour in this competitive world. It is now a well-established fact that only those who have acquired effective communication skills are going to lead the world around them. Naturally, a good command of English on the part of a candidate is the requirement of all prestigious competitive examinations, including civil services, besides being a passport of success in whatever they lay their hands on.
The inspiration to write the present book, Competitive English for Professional Courses primarily came from some of my students who in spite of having a brilliant academic career failed to make their way to civil service and other equivalent competitive examinations. In fact, most of the examples, given herein as incorrect expressions, are the direct quotes from their writings that they did from time to time during my last fifty years. My long experience as a teacher of English at various levels, teacher-educator, principal, and above all as paper-setter and evaluator for various examination boards and universities, justifies the apology for bringing out yet another book on the subject. The existing books available on the subject in the market hardly meet the requirement of the candidates appearing at the civil service and other equivalent competitive examinations- the ability to read and write effectively, flawlessly and speedily within the given time. Hence this book.
