Blackie’s Concise English Dictionary

The Concise Dictionary is an ideal English vocabulary-building companion for English language enthusiasts. Our dictionary provides an up-to-date word list for new language users. It includes everyday English vocabulary that you need to communicate effectively. This vocabulary is vast and ranges from many fields like astronomy, geography, chemistry, physics, etc. The words are all explained in clear language, hence maximizing the degree of understanding possible. Each dictionary entry enumerates multiple senses so that multiple uses of the word in various contexts are easily understood. Verb inflections are given for the verbs that change their base forms when inflected for tenses. The plurals of the noun for the irregular forms are given. Adjectives are given along with their degrees of comparison at the beginning of the term. All the derived forms are also specially given at the end of each entry. The format is designed such that it is easy to navigate and use. At the end of each word, we have added the etymology or the origin of the particular word. We have tried to emphasize how the word has entered the English lexicon and from which source language. The appendix of the dictionary consists of a number of popular and common foreign language phrases used in our language. It has a list of famous Greek mythological characters. It also has a guide to weights and measures. It has been our effort to make the entries as detailed and full of potent information as possible. We hope that we have approximated our target in this endeavor.
