This book has been written compiling the up to date information in a student friendly approach to stimulate biodiversity conservation movement. It has been noted that biodiversity conservation requires a multidisciplinary approach incorporating the knowledge of Environmental Sciences, Zoology, Botany, Agriculture, Geography, Economics, Sociology, and Conservation Biology. The book, therefore, would have importance to students, teachers, researchers, NGOs and other interested persons in the above mentioned fields. The united Nations in the year 2002 demarcated water, energy, health, agriculture and biodiversity as areas of crucial global importance. Although attempts are continuing for ameliorating the problems in the said areas, most people are unaware about invisible benefits provided by biodiversity. Human society depends on biodiversity directly for food, shelter, medicine and indirectly for pollination of crops, clean air, clean water and many other services. Biodiversity protection is critical for maintaining our way of life.
