Book Summary:
Basic Mechanical Engineering (BME) is the subject introduced by the Rajiv Gandhi Proudyogiki Vishwavidyalaya (RGPV), Bhopal to be taught at the first year level. This subject is common to all branches of engineering. With the development of all branches of engineering, modern subjects are being introduced as per the requirement of a particular branch. Therefore, the traditional subjects of other branches are being replaced by newer subjects of a branch. The RGPV has introduced BME to make the students of branches other than Mechanical Engineering to understand the basic principles of commonly used mechanical machines and devices.
The subject of BME comprises of five units: Materials, Measurement, Fluids, Thermodynamics and Reciprocating Machines. The author has divided these five units into eight chapters: Materials, Measurement, Introduction to Machine Tools, Fluids, Thermodynamics, Steam Properties Boilers and refrigeration Steam Engines and Internal Combustion Engines. All the topics in the various chapters have been dealt with thoroughly. A large number of solved examples have been included for the easy assimilation of the subject matter.
