From the teaching experience of last 21 years for undergraduate classes, it appeared to authpr that there was a need for a coincise and practical book on power plant engineering. The treatment of the book begins with fundamentals and develops in a way that allows the practical man as well as the student to expand his knowledge progressively. It is manifestly impossible to deal completely with all phases of this far-reaching subject in a book that is designed primarily as a text book. The author has therefore confined himself strictly in the mechanical engineering features of power plants, leaving to other standard works on the subject structural and electrical considerations.
