A Textbook Of Mechanics Of Solids by Dr. J. P. Singh
Book Summary:

This book has been written with a view to covering the requirements of a first course in the subject of mechanics of solids or the so called strength of materials taught in the Indian universities and the subject matter of the examinations of some of the professional institutions like Institution of Engineers and Indian Institute of Metals etc. and various competitive examinations. The lecture notes of the author meant for classes taken by him in the undergraduate classes of Regional Institute of Technology, Jamshedpur have mainly covered the contents of the book with addition of a few advanced topics required to be taught in a second course. Essentials of the subject and fundamentals have been fully explained for a complete study of the subject. Apart from classical derivations, about 450 problems have been included adequately covering the various aspects; full solutions for over 250 problems have been given, the rest are left as exercise problems the answers for which are provided. About 400 illustrative figures are used to aid the derivations, solution of problems and exercise problems. The theories, derivations and solution of the problems have been presented in a manner that can be easily grasped by beginners, at the same time a strong foundation is built for understanding and analyzing advanced aspects of the subject. The SI-units have been strictly followed throughout.
